SUSTAINABILITY
INTRODUCTION
In recent years, sustainability has become a fundamental pillar of our Group's strategy and operations. In an increasingly global context, sensitive to environmental, social, and economic changes, we believe it is essential to do our part by positively contributing to the protection of the planet and the local communities in which we operate. This is why we have committed to preparing a Sustainability Report that currently covers the period 2022-2023 and aims to transparently present the current overview, the challenges faced, and our commitments for the future.
"COIM has always believed in the importance of preserving the economic and psychological well-being of its employees, protecting the environment, promoting the development of local communities, and ensuring long-term business stability and continuity, guaranteeing the best possible product for our customers." Giuseppe Librandi, CEO of COIM Group.
our goals
Our work focuses on setting concrete goals and continuously improving our energy efficiency and renewable energy efforts, both at the Group level and within each of our companies. A significant example of this commitment is COIM SpA (Italy)'s goal of obtaining 100% of its electricity from certified renewable sources by 2030, with 2025 set as the start date for the transition and the alignment of our subsidiaries for subsequent years. In 2022, we signed our energy management policy for COIM SpA (Italy) and in 2024 for the entire Group. Through this policy, we began to responsibly manage our energy consumption, improving cost effectiveness, productivity, and reducing waste. At COIM SpA (Italy), we are introducing software that will allow us to collect real-time data on electricity consumption, classify the various departments, and identify those that consume the most energy and have the greatest impact.
water use
Regarding water use within the company, we have our own wells used to operate cooling towers and for production processes. In both cases, the water is recovered and reused to avoid waste, following a circular economy approach. Water recovery and reuse are fundamental practices that are promoted in our Italian plants and some subsidiaries (see BS 2023, pages 66-67).
The ongoing search for solutions to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is a priority for our Group. In 2023, we launched an ambitious three-year decarbonization project for the Offanengo site, in collaboration with a specialized company. The process involved site inspections, emissions analyses (including Scope 1 and 2 emissions and, in 2024, Scope 3 emissions according to the GHG Protocol), and an assessment of the most energy-intensive processes, with the aim of identifying the best solutions to reduce energy consumption and the company's carbon footprint. We also developed a GHG Report for Offanengo, a document that monitors direct and indirect emissions. Furthermore, in 2025, we plan to extend the calculation of Scope 3 emissions to the entire Group, starting with the 2024 data, with particular attention to the categories generating the greatest impacts to determine the overall carbon footprint.
According to the GHG Protocol, a company's emissions are divided into three areas:
Direct emissions generated by the company, from sources owned or controlled by the company.
Indirect emissions generated by energy purchased and consumed by the company.
It includes all other indirect emissions generated by the company's value chain.
In 2023, in line with the objective set in the previous Sustainability Report, we joined the United Nations Global Compact, a voluntary initiative that promotes the adoption of universal sustainability principles in support of the UN's goals. Joining the Compact gives us the opportunity to stay up-to-date on the latest sustainability developments, participate in working groups, workshops, and training courses, and share progress and initiatives, helping to increase the transparency of sustainability-related activities. Our Group's primary goal is to align all subsidiaries with a sustainable vision, aiming to create a culture of sustainability and develop shared goals. To this end, another step was to extend the key policies already implemented at COIM SpA to other legal entities in 2024. One example of this is COIM SpA's achievement of the EcoVadis Gold Medal for three consecutive years, a recognition we intend to improve annually and extend to all Group entities.

sustainable products
In terms of production, we continue to actively develop sustainable, high-quality products through dedicated research teams for each of our product lines. As a Group, we are strongly focused on implementing solutions that promote greater sustainability, prioritizing the use of alternative raw materials to traditional synthetic ones, such as those from renewable (bio-based) sources and recycled materials, while maintaining the same quality. Furthermore, product safety is essential to our operations. Before purchasing raw materials, we ask our suppliers to complete a comprehensive questionnaire, allowing us to conduct appropriate internal assessments. Our commitment has been recognized with various awards. In 2023, for example, some of our products received the Remade in Italy certification for being made with recycled materials, ISCC PLUS at the Offanengo site (Italy) and in the United States, OK Compost (Italy), Recyclass approval (Italy), ZDHC (Italy), UL Validated (United States), OEKO-TEX®, and ECO PASSPORT certification (Spain).
People
The well-being of our employees is a fundamental aspect of the Group's policy. We are committed not only to ensuring respect for rights in all workplaces throughout the entire supply chain, but also to placing people at the center of our operations. For us, business growth coincides with improving the conditions of our workers. Compared to 2022, the number of jobs increased by approximately 7%, with a particular focus on permanent contracts, which will account for 99% in 2023. This highlights the importance of establishing stable and trusting relationships to support the growth of the company, which currently employs over 1.200 people worldwide. In 2023, we also intensified our training offerings: in line with our goal of pursuing sustainable development, we organized training programs focused on topics such as climate change, energy management, the circular economy, and sustainable procurement. Looking ahead, we aim to extend these courses, which focus on ESG aspects, to other Group companies.
local communities
In 2022, we decided to implement a policy dedicated to social initiatives to support the communities in which we operate, focusing on their well-being and socioeconomic development. At COIM SpA, we collaborate with public and private organizations to ensure:
The right to education through targeted activities, such as the provision of scholarships to prevent school dropouts;
Access to artistic, sporting, and cultural initiatives consistent with our values; Support for the development of building infrastructure and decent living conditions for the local community;
Appropriately responding to social needs arising from situations of hardship or vulnerability; Sponsoring local events aimed at helping, supporting, or improving the community.
The initiatives
Our initiatives, such as summer camps for children and youth or sports tournaments (soccer, tennis, volleyball), often involve our employees' children, giving them the opportunity to participate in healthy sports. Sponsorship requests are evaluated and approved by our Board of Directors, which ensures the ethical integrity of the projects and prioritizes those with a socio-humanitarian dimension. For example, we pay special attention to local associations that support children with disabilities through horse therapy or volunteers who help families manage the daily lives of children with autism or other cognitive disabilities. Similar consideration is given to amateur sports organizations that promote sports as a means of uniting children through soccer, tennis, and volleyball tournaments.
Again, our intention is to align all Group entities with these policies.
WHAT DO WE DO
COIM's primary objective is to develop in a way that is consistent with core values such as quality, health, safety, and the environment . Its focus on constantly improving customer satisfaction, environmental protection, and health, both inside and outside its production facilities, is systematically monitored to define new goals each year, in accordance with the laws of each country in which COIM operates.
Environmental sustainability
One of the challenges COIM has long faced is environmental sustainability. This topic, which requires the full commitment of all our employees, affects various areas of our business.
I R&D laboratories I am constantly looking for new raw materials, which while continuing to satisfy customer needs respond to the needs of safeguard the environment.
We want our suppliers to share with us the vision of improvement we have set, the use of safe and innovative materials, procedures aimed at preserving our planet.
Production is the part of our business where we try to reduce energy and raw material waste most through careful planning. The ultimate goal of this policy is directly focused on: on reducing water consumption and CO2.
Social sustainability
The other major challenge lies in managing the quality system. To achieve the objectives we have set ourselves in this area, COIM has equipped itself with an organization that works on processes and procedures in order to ensure a constant increase in quality.
The attention we pay to our products is the same that we pay to the well-being and health of those who work with us: The higher the attention towards our collaborators the higher the quality of our products.
